For the Function: All Points East

At Victoria Park, festival dressing was part practicality, part self-expression. We asked people at All Points East what they wore and why.

For many, a music festival is an excuse to experiment with how you dress and spend the day around people who share your excitement for live music. At All Points East, that meant turning up the volume on what was already there. People wore pieces they made themselves or that their friends made for them, and pulled references from past festival looks and the subcultures they cared about.

There is also something more inherently public about getting dressed for a festival. You are dressing for a long and unpredictable day, but you are also entering a crowd where clothes become one of the quickest ways to recognize one another.

We spoke to people around Victoria Park about what they were wearing and their festival dressing philosophy.

Umeima: “She [Lizzy] made these trousers and the badges, and I made the tube top. Basically, I’m dressed by her.”

Lizzy: “[For me,] desperation.”

“Look as standout-ish as possible, because then your friends can find you.”

“I kind of inspired it around my bracelet. I’ve been watching a lot of Skins, and because it’s so dry, it reminded me of that one Kate Moss Glastonbury look. So I decided to do kind of an emo, indie-sleaze look.”

Priscilla: “Good footwear and a bag that’s cute enough, but big enough that you can fit all the stuff you need.”

Kamaya: “You see how people talk about having Zone 1 outfits in, like, Zone 4 of London? A Zone 1 outfit, but elevated. So anything I can’t wear on a random Tuesday, I’m gonna put it on just because. And yeah, decent footwear. Give yourself a couple extra inches as well, because these people are tall and they’ll stand in front of your face.”
